Stop Smoking

Most non-smokers do not know how hard it is to quit smoking.  Research shows that IV heroin users can quit heroin easier than 4 out of 5 smokers to quit smoking!  I have worked with many stop smoking programs for over 16 years.  I know many methods that don’t work.  I teach methods that do work!  I will see anyone for stop smoking visits and will accept whatever your insurance will pay. (If your insurance will not pay or you don’t have insurance there will be no cost to you.) If you are interested in our stop smoking program, please make an appointment with Robert Marsh.

You must want to quit.  No method will work if you don’t want to quit.
If you are smoking to treat a stress, anxiety or depression problem, don’t quit. Work on the other problem first.
If you want to quit but are afraid of weight gain, come see me!
Zyban is effective (90%!!!), if used correctly. It does not work for everyone and as with any medication it has side effects. Generic is available for under $5 a month !!!!
"Cold turkey" works, although it takes trying for an average of 6 years until it will work for most people.  Don’t get discouraged by failure, it WILL eventually work.
Substitution methods only work in specific situations.
Behavioral modification works 98% of the time IF you keep doing it for the 6 to 8 months it usually takes.  No cost and safe but keeping motivated is the problem.

All other methods have a maximum 9% success rate,
but you might be in the lucky 9% !
