Every year, on the third Thursday of November, smokers across the nation take part in the American Cancer Society Great American Smokeout event.   Use the date to quit or encourage someone you know to quit.  By quitting – even for 1 day – smokers will be taking an important step toward a healthier life.

In Missouri, 22.1% of the adult population smokes as compared to 15.1% nationwide.  According to the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, 11,000 adults in Missouri die each year from their own smoking. The annual health care costs in Missouri directly caused by smoking is $3.03 billion.

The providers at Fordland Clinic will offer assistance to anyone wanting to quit smoking.  We offer counseling, medication assisted cessation, and can refer to Smoking Cessation Programs in the area.  The State of Missouri also offers a free program that helps smokers create a plan to quit smoking.  If interested, visit www.quitnow.net/Missouri
